Part VI

This post is a dramatically condensed version of two days….into one! This is what happens when you get behind. But it still has many reasons to visit Arroyo Grande.

To start the day, Peter made us a delicious pour over. We might need to learn how to do this. First we will need a couple of equipment items though. Peter uses fresh roasted beans from a local shop in Montrose.

After breakfast at the John’s B & B, Uncle David was off to a morning of tennis.

Uncle David looking so cool!

And when you see this outfit layed out, you know it is biking day for Suzanne.

And for us, when you see driving pictures around breakfast time, you know it is Sally Loo’s in San Luis Obispo time. I really loved this original VW bug. It was in perfect shape!

This is Dave’s friend Trevor. He is the manager and excellent barista at Sally Loo’s. He will also take orders and generally keep things running smoothly.

Ooops! I forgot to edit this photo! You always wanted to see straws right? In the background is Dave picking up our smooth americano’s.

Every day I skip a lot of other carbs so I am able to enjoy these scones. Scones are one of my favorites; but they can’t be any scone. They can’t be too dry or definitely not moist. They are best as served in english tea houses. The scones at Sally Loo’s are just right. Everyday they have three different kinds. Today was raspberry pepper for me. Trevor recommended it as his favorite; but did warn me it can be a little spicy. I did enjoy it! It had several tastes of fruity essence and then a pop of fresh ground pepper. Was very interesting!

Oh dear…another edit blank. The food however was wonderful!

This is another friend at Sally Loo’s. His family is from Ukraine. He always has a smile for you.

The drive between Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo, generally referenced as SLO, is easy and enjoyable. Cows, horses, farms, vineyards, country roads…..

Today, the unmentionable happened. Rain! We had to turn on our wipers. So not allowed! Only sun is allowed here. It only lasted 5 minutes; however I hear it is coming back in a couple of days.

For those of you out of California, have you missed Cal Trans?

One of the places we like to shop when we are in town is California Fresh. They have a plethora of goodies along with essential fruits, vegetables and other products. Dave knows the produce manager here. A couple of years ago he told Dave he bought the cheapest rundown house in a very nice neighborhood and is fixing it up. He is progressing well!

Stocking up on a few items for us and a few to restock the pantry at the John’s Bed and Breakfast.

Remember that rain? And my Cal Trans question?

I see they are still hard at work. One could say that at least they are consistent in their approach.

When we went ‘home’, look what greeted us! Mike is adding more to his backyard. It is going to be so beautiful!

And Peter is here!

After a few chores, Dave wanted to try the coffee at Mule in the Village. It was recommended to us. I stuck with Andreini’s just in case Mule was super powerful. We did find out they make their pastries with butter however. The only thing they use oil in is their cupcakes. We have it straight from the head baker who just happened to be there. We also found out they are expanding to include the shop next store in the near future!

The rain was gone and the sun was out. It was a relaxing time to sit and enjoy. While we were at the tables in front of Mule, we met this friendly man and his dog, Beatrice. She is a 4 year old shepherd.

Beatrice loves to be scratched! She also likes to ride in the van on the passenger side.

This is the van Beatrice and her owner travel in. Currently they are on a west coast visit. Beatrice has a special raised seat with a platform on the front passenger side, with a harness so she can ride along and enjoy the view. She can also take a little nap up there if required. Beatrice and her owner do these traveling trips a few times a year. Beatrice’s owner’s wife stays home and enjoys her ‘alone time.’

I love the little winding paths between the shops in the Village. This is one of the ones that leads to the car park area at the back.

It is time to get back to the Bed and Breakfast for dinner service! You definitely don’t want to miss that. Tonight I think it is salmon steaks.

Here is to a very sunny day tomorrow!

And in case you were wondering on the outcome of Mule, the coffee was very good! You should stop in and visit when you are in AG!
